It's funny when a guy with a sub .800 OPS is considered as some kind of messiah. Especially when he somehow nets us two young cost controlled pitchers.

 

Seriously. We basically traded a league average player for a potential top of the rotation arm + another young arm with potential who isn't even arbitration eligible yet. This is a massive coup for the Angels.

 

Trumbo for Skaggs alone would've been a good trade for the Angels.

Considering Trumbo's age and lack of progression (and you can argue that he's been regressing,) this is at the very least a good value deal, especially when you consider our needs. I really wish we didn't trade Bourjos though, would've been nice to play Calhoun at first so we can keep Pujols at DH.

Trumbo had a sub .700 OPS his past 200 games...he's replaceable

Seriously. I would have had no problem with just Skaggs for Mark ''Swings at balls eye high'' Trumbo. Loved the guy for what he did, but he has terrible plate discipline and 35 HRs/100 RBIs does not change that.

I honestly don't think Pujols needs to DH much...yet. When healthy, he can still play well at first. Ideally, he'd probably DH 20-30x to keep his legs fresh.
