Bourjos traded to Cardinals

Damn straight I would. He's a better defender with a good bat when healthy. I would absolutely put him out there over Calhoun.

You run into the same problem you did with Maicer.  As soon as PBJ plays every day he gets injured.  He was going to be platooned if he stayed on the team.

Not to mention I have zero confidence in new hitters coming to this organization and actually performing better than they have in the past.  When's the last time that happened? Juan Rivera?

Rivera was a great 'buy low' candidate. He had put up really great numbers for a season with Montreal but had some trouble finding playing time after that. Not that different of a situation as Bourjos really.

oh puleese Chuck. 3B is not a big problem here. We don't have great options there right now, but that is low on the priority list. Offense is NOT the issue this team needs to address. We made a marginal upgrade in a position that wasn't critical while trading low on a very good player.

3B has been a problem for years now.

oh and by definition, when you say "we dont have great options there", that means it IS a priority.

If you guys legitimately think Borjous was going to get us anything of real value in the Starting Pitcher market, you are over valuing.

I just registered to defend Chuck:

1. Peter has had one solid season, two seasons where he had under 200 at bats, and one season where he was injured and played in 55 games. He's never had an OBP above .333. And though he plays a mean OF, it is a low value position right now. And a bad hamstring is not particularly helpful when your entire value is your speed.

2. David Freese has had two solid seasons, one season with under 300 at bats, and one bad season where he played despite nagging injuries. He plays 3B, one of the most valued positions. Oh, and he has a history, if short, of coming up with big hits.

3. Grichuk has been injured throughout his minor league career, plays a low valued position that the Angels have plenty of for the forseeable future, and isn't ranked highly outside of our terrible minor league system.

4. Salas has had one great season and two bad seasons in the majors.

If I came to the Angels looking to trader for Peter, I would not value him very highly. He is a gamble, that could work out, but doesn't have much of a track record and doesn't get on base.

NAME ONE TIME I SAID 3B WAS OUR PRIORITY THIS SEASON?

What I said was we upgraded a spot and dealt a player who most likely wouldn't have a spot in the starting lineup with Calhoun around.

So, just wondering again from all those who think that we should have kept Bourjos to "increase his value", how exactly would that happen? With Calhoun and Shuck here, both would cut into Borjous's playing time, making it even more clear that he was a 4th OFer.

Again, not necessarily a great deal, but could be the first step in several trades. Give it time to see how the whole thing plays out.

I'm cool with this trade.

Trout is now the full time Centerfielder.

I liked Bourjos, but with all that speed I would think he would have many more stolen bases and he always seemed to be getting hurt.

At this time, Freese is now the full time third baseman. which we have lacked for a while.

Not really sure why everyone is whining?

Trade Trumbo, and Bourjos is far, far, far better than Shuck, so Bourjos plays.

Not that hard.

no flop, it isn't a priority. We have a defensive option there that isn't a great offensive option. But offense isn't our big need on this team so replacing that defensive specialist 3B with a mediocre 3B with better offense isn't a priority move.

Oh, and I don't think anyone here is claiming Bourjos would have netted us a real valuable SP.

I just think we shouldn't be giving away any of our trade chips until we complete several successful trades for starting pitching. If we had already traded for two starters and still had Bourjos and then completed this trade for Freese, I personally would be fine with it.
