this is an irrelevant comparison. is weaver someone you would give the ball to in a big game? i wouldn't hesitate.

I'm sure he wouldn't be you first or second or third choice if you could pick anyone in the league.

 

While he is the best we have, he is probably tied for 4th with Lester out of all the #1s of the 4 teams in the playoffs left.

 

My point is that there is room for improvement for all spots in the rotation, including the #1(now whether that is possible is a different story).

Yep, he's about to hit 30.  

 

He was really good through 2011, and then slumped badly in 2012 (1.38 WHIP and 4.82 ERA).

This season, he recovered solidly but still had a pretty high WHIP of 1.29.

He does do a solid job of keeping the ball in the park, especially pitching 50% of the time in skanky and decrepit Fenway.

He is also durable (maybe missing 3-4 starts tops in the past 6 years).

But, we already have one higher WHIP lefty who also does a solid job of keeping the ball in the park.   It would be very risky to have two of them, especially with both being age 30+ in 2014.

 

NO MORE AGE 30+ SLUGGERS OR STARTERS!   None at least for the next 5+ years, get Trout signed!

Meh, he's been our best pitcher for what, 5 seasons?  He's given us a hometown discount and a lot of good seasons.  It's amazing how quickly fans can turn on players.  Fans want everything and whine about giving anything in return.

You think this is something? Wait until Trout gets old and see how quickly some of these guys turn against him.

I don't want DiPoto trading for anymore injured pitchers. If the O's are willing to give him up he's probably washed up,

It is only when most of the acquisitions are 30+ and many of them have struggled here since 2010.

To be clear though, the acquisitions like DDLR are different, because it's not big money given to declining players.

There has been some big concern about signing the Beard. 

At least he's healthy though, unlike Madson.
