I have a Z series Sony Vaio that I dropped and it doesn't turn on. I took the hard drive out and want to clear it so I can sell it. Does anyone know how to do that. I used to do that using External Hard Drive Enclosure by connecting it to another PC but this is the new micro hard drive and I have no idea what to use. Does anyone know whether this is possible?

This is the exact hard drive I have: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-VPCZ1-VPC-Z-SSD-SLIM-1-8-LIF-256GB-MLC-MZRPC256HADR-000SO-SSD-Hard-Drive-/350798781800?ViewItem=&item=350798781800&nma=true&si=AHUX%252Fi8MD8tRl%252BFu1yPfGYP04eU%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I'm thinking of trying this but it says it's for ipods: http://www.amazon.com/1-8-inch-Enclosure-Toshiba-Connector-Assorted/dp/B001OYCJHI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377572213&sr=8-1&keywords=1.8+inch+External+Hard+Drive

Do you have a desktop computer?  It is going to be a sata connection.  Most newer model power supplies can power it and a sata cable should work to connect it.

If that doesn't work just find a really powerful magnet :P.

Did you take the laptop apart to make sure no connections got knocked loose?  Dropping it shouldn't prevent it from coming on unless the motherboard was cracked/broken.

I dropped it with the screen open, so the connection between the base and screen is all messed up and it can barely stay connected. I believe though the power button is broken.  I opened it and from my naked eye everything looks in place.

Is this the right cable for it? http://www.amazon.com/Generic-240149-SATA-Data-Cable/dp/B001O4EPHA
