Yes, exactly. And that's a CHOICE the MANAGER is making. Thus the impact that a MANAGER can have.

I think his point was that Mike isn't calling every single play. Sometimes the players make big boy decisions and a lot of times those decisions are completely retarded. Scioscia promotes aggressive baseball, not retardation. Unfortunately some of the players don't know the difference.

right, so to use Vladfan's example, if his son repeatedly made bad baserunning decisions, if would be stupid for the manager to not put the brakes on him and instruct him to go only when he tells him, don't try and take the extra base, etc.

this argument that just because the manager isn't physically committing the stupid act it has nothing to do with him, just doesn't hold any water.

Look........during pre-game they look at the scouting reports to determine whether you should run on certain outfielders based on their arm strength.

The Angels team philosophy is aggression on the bases and has been for a while now. Players make their own decisions if they should go or not.

The manager has less to do with it than you think.

EXACTLY MY POINT.  Doesn't seem like that philosophy is working out too well, does it?  Who dictates that philosophy?
