Garza Trade From Cubs To Rangers No Longer Imminent
By Steve Adams [July 19 at 8:50pm CST]

For a while earlier today, it looked like the top available starting pitcher on the trade market could pack his bags for Texas. The Cubs and Rangers reached the point of exchanging medical information on six players who were apparently ready to change teams, most prominent among them the Cubs' Matt Garza.

  • The prospective trade broke down over the medicals of one player, tweets Bowden. He says that the clubs are "working hard" to re-formulate the deal with a replacement piece. Quite the opposite is true, according to Sullivan, who writes that "right now there is nothing happening" and that "tonight is not the night."

Olt is the most over-rated prospect in baseball. He has been horrible this year, and is now getting old. He is Dallas MacPherson Part II.

you're a [XXXXXXXX] he had a setback due to a concussion and 24 isn't old in the baseball world. he's stagnating in the minors because there's nowhere for him to get full playing time.

MOD EDIT: KNOCK IT OFF

Let Texas have him and trade their farm system. Texas is barely hanging on to a wild card lead at this point.

that team that's "barely hanging on to a wild card lead" hasn't been healthy all year. you're the most annoyingly cynical person i've ever encountered on the internet. didn't you threaten to commit suicide over something trivial?

MOD EDIT: KNOCK IT OFF

The concussion was in November, he didn't start having his vision problems until ST, and the Rangers have gone on record in several reports as saying the two things aren't related but you never know with brain injuries and apparently, that wasn't his first one.  The bigger issue, one that was exposed when he was recalled last year and that has carried over all of this season is his struggles with breaking balls.  Since reaching/passing AA he's struck out 194 times in 590 at bats vs 95 walks.    He's done a lot better since coming off the DL but even while on a hot streak he's been striking out a great deal.  I don't necessarily think Ks are anything other than an out but if he's whiffing that much in the minors, it would be natural to think they will go up at the MLB level.

While I think reports of his demise may be a bit exaggerated, his star has dimmed in many circles..   To be honest, if in fact he's gone off the deep end, trading him for a rental is a pretty shrewd move IMO.  Given their reluctance to move him at all in the past, maybe the Rangers view of him has changed.
