Maybe if they traded for a new hitting philosophy we would have a better chance.

Based on the position they were in and the tendencies of Arte, there were three realistic options:

a) sell off non-Ohtani rentals

b) stand pat and do nothing

c) buy, like they did

Of those three, going with option C is perfectly fine.

The reality is Arte was never going to tear it all to the ground when the Angels were above .500 and a handful of games out of a playoff spot.
