Gameday Thread (5/3/23): Angels @ Cardinals - Ohtani on the mound

Gubie & Wayne were just talking about El Segundo High School and Lars Nootbar... and how that was the same HS that Ken & George Brett went to...

There's actually about 25-30 El Segundo kids that have gone on to play some level of pro ball, and John Stevenson coached them all... he was the head baseball coach there for 50 YEARS right up until he died of a heart attack in 2010. Incredible baseball program for a smaller HS, with great tradition.

I used to live in El Segundo and was a sportswriter at the El Segundo Herald for a few years. I was covering them when they re-named their field for George Brett after he was voted into the HOF, got to interview him for the paper and attended a private reunion party for him and his old HS teammates... probably the highlight of the "journalist" phase of my career

I take that back, Stevenson didn't coach them ALL... he was dead when the Nootbar brothers played there. They were coached by current ESHS coach and former MLB pitcher Billy Traber (who also went to ESHS) and HOLY SHIT LAMB JUST TIED THIS GAME UP YEAHHHHHHHH
