It was a great movie.  But it is also such a downer.  In the 80s I would often hang out with one particular group of friends that were all aspiring actors in Hollywood.  My friend Chet somewhat suddenly pivoted to the adult industry and became “Jon Dough.”  He was then in like thousands of adult movies, and a character in a Boogie Nights was based on him specifically.  Ultimately Chet committed suicide as do many who end up in that industry.

Very sad.

Who was the character in the movie about him? 

That's crazy. I read an article some time ago about how many people in porn commit suicide. It's one of those things that probably sounds great when you're young, but ruins you.

I know the movie had a number of characters that were based on different people from different eras, pulling them together into one story that tried to capture some of the storylines of different people, loosely (no pun intended).

Chet was just absolutely freaking hilarious.  Not the loudest guy in the room but when he said something it was the funniest thing ever.  I had lost track of him completely other than knowing he was still in that industry.  Then a few years later one of my other friends told me he killed himself.
