Here's the thing, arte needs to considered what direction he wants to take and how he wants t9 take that direction

If he wants to keep Othani for a Long time, he needs to go all in for the next few years.

1 st way he gets that going is starting by getting that payroll above 230 Mil! and that's the lowest it should be!

Start improving the team this trade deadline, we could easy get some nice pieces.ex Anderson from Marlins or other player to help for the future.

Wouldn't say 230 minimum but the budget needs to be raised to at least 210

I've supported boosting payroll as much as anyone the last few years, but getting harder to make the argument that it would actually do anything.

Virtually every FA we sign, cheap or expensive, sucks. In fact, most FAs tend to suck. And we don't seen to be doing very well when developing or finding internal solutions either.

The thing about the Angels trading anyone for prospects is that they can't properly develop or scout talent.  The fact that we've made the playoffs once in the past 13 years and still consistently have one of the most barren farm systems in baseball is a testament to that.  Say hypothetically we trade Ohtani: best case is maybe we'll get lucky and grab a higher level roster player along with some "can't miss" types that are too far along for our development staff to get their hands on.  The more "Angels" result would probably be Arte wanting to receive splashy roster players to grind into his marketing machine and to keep the MLB club spinning it's wheels, along with some fringe far off prospects.

This is the reason we're in this twilight zone shit purgatory in the first place, and it starts from the top down.  Until Arte kicks the bucket or sells the team to competent leadership that actually cares about developing a winner, I don't see much changing no matter what path we take *cues Debbie Downer emoji*

Don't think the Mets are a good trade fit, they are the biggest threat in FA but don't really match up well since they can't really offer pitching.

The Dodgers are the best bet if a trade was going to happen. Padres #2.

The trade calculator says May/Miller/Pepiot/Pages or Busch would be fair for Ohtani.

Gore/Abrams/Grisham would also be "equal" according to the simulator.

The most interesting part of trading Ohtani is that, with Soto being put on the trade market, teams will be lining up overwhelming offers for a generational talent and, if none of those catch Washington's interest, those teams can turn their focus to Shohei and perhaps feel comfortable offering almost the same deal. It's super rare players like this hit the trade market.

I would say that 210 Mil is bad, but 220-230 is the ideal range. Th

I think it also depends on the type of guys we bring, Cahill, Quintana, Allen, were on the down slop of their career, so there weren't going to provide much. While a guy like Cozart, had a career year, but was about average before that, it was 50/50 shot.

I think if you spend, arte can not set a hard cap at 190 mil, he needs at the very minimal to be in the 210 range. We typically go into the offseason, with around 40 mil to spend before hitting that 190ish mark, if its set to 210, that's another 20 mil, that can improve the team.

Just take another look at the payroll we're have close to 40 mil to spend onces again, before hitting around 190 mil, and lets say the Hard Cap is at 215 mil this upcoming season.

So 65 Mil to spendl

Basset: 50 Mil per 3 years: 16 Mil per year, for a solid number 3 and inning eater

Maybe re-sign Noah: 72 Mil Over 4 years with an Opt out after the 1st season: 18 Mil a year

Profar: 40 mil over 4 years: fits in the Super UTl role: 10 mil per year and has a chance to start

Piscotty: 5 Mil per 1 year has Backup Of. Could be a minor league signing

wendle: 15 mil over 2 years

That 56.5 Mil spent that could easily improve the over team. We add starting, we add depth to the rotation. We can easily put one or 2 off our young guys in the Bp to help the Bp. On the offensive side, we improve by adding depth.

With Trout’s back issue making him DHing much more desirable, I’m leaning over to the trade Ohtani side.

Trout and Rendon will need those DH spots often enough.

I’m also coming into the camp of not having feast or famine anymore.

Question is, can Perry pull off the right trade involving Ohtani to more successfully fill out the MLB roster?

Are we better off trading for stars compared to signing them as a free agent?  Who have we traded for and did they suck or were they really good in their time as an Angel?

Uptown was a good pick up at the time. Who else? Texeira was really good. Greinke was good.
