But at what point is it “stands” and not “wall”. If there is an errant throw home from an infielder and it hits the net it is in play.  So where does the “stands not wall” rule start?  At the dugout?

It’s like the line in the outfield - it’s arbitrary and stupid and a result of the umpires being able to double check on replay.

Again, I’m not an umpire, but I believe the screen behind the plate has always been there and has always been in play, whereas the screen recently came into play for fan safety.  Now, to be honest, I’ve never seen a throw from an infielder hit the backstop screen on the fly, but that would be an interesting ruling.

I can guarantee you that the backstop net is in play.  There must be a specific point a ball that hits it is out of play, if you are correct, and I don’t know where that is.

I think it’s about where the on deck circle is.  At least in Anaheim it is.  I’d assume it’s a universal area in all parks.

Screen is in play off a throw but dead ball off the bat

Even an errant throw to first from an infielder?  I find that hard to believe if it hits the net in RF it’s in play and not a free base.
