I just decided that everything is going to inexplicably go right this year, so obviously Rengifo is an all star.

Defensively he could be ok.  If the rest of the lineup lives up to potential the Angels could thrive with a light hitting shortstop.

I'm not ruling out an external option, but of the internal options: Velazquez.

He feels like the Joe Maddon pick, and he even mentioned him.

But whoever the SS is in April most likely won't be the SS come May/June.

No issue with your stance.  But at some point this team needs to actually win.  Ohtani isn’t going to want to be here if the culture is to keep losing.

So while I don’t disagree with the angle you express, I personally would not be surprised at all if they make a move that is decidedly about winning now (next 1-2 yrs).

I'd love that, but then why haven't they signed any starters of note? It's going to be difficult to win with our rotation.

I think the SS battle is going to last until like June. Vasquez will break camp as SS, but his inability to bat his weight will lead to him being replaced in May. Then Duffy will take over but his glove won't be good enough to make anything more than spot appearances there. By default, Rengifo will be next and he'll be the closest thing to an everyday player. Better defense than Duffy, better offense than Vasquez.

I think the MINF is Fletcher, Wade, and now Duffy. Rengifo or Vasquez could also make it, I suppose with Adell or Marsh at AAA to open the year. The OF then being Trout, Upton, Adell, and Ward.

Stassi, Suzuki, Rendon, Walsh make up the rest of the 12 non-Ohtani offensive players.
