Is Relief Pitcher the "easiest" path to the MLB?

The Buttrey discussion got me to thinking, if I was a decent athlete in High School, not a Trout superstar, and I wanted to maximize my chances of making an MLB roster would Relief Pitcher be the way to go?

The first Pro Athlete from my HS was Dave LaRoche.   When I attended he held the school record for Doubles in a season, so he had some offensive capabilities.  I don't remember seeing his name on any of the pitching records, even though he made it as a Relief Pitcher. 

Is Relief Pitcher the "easiest" way to get to the show for a non-superstar athlete?

I’m pretty sure Buttrey, like many relievers, started out as a SP. So no, it’s not the easiest path.

So what would you say is the easiest path for someone?

Generally speaking nepotism is the easiest path.

Depends on the what you're trying to accomplish.  To make and play in an actual MLB game, yes relief pitcher would be the easiest as it's the position that has the most players.  If you want to make and stick it without having overly good skill or being potentially replaced as easy, it will be catcher.

What I think he's trying to say which position would be easiest to MLB. A lefty in pen and get signed by a bad team. When I coached little league many kids not very good. I'd tell those kids study hard in school.

If we're talking pitching, then being a lefty already gives you a "head start" so to speak.
