Denmark plans to slaughter up to 17 million farmed mink because a coronavirus mutation discovered in the animals that spread to humans, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Wednesday.

She said the mutation could lower the effectiveness of a future vaccine.

“We have a great responsibility towards our own population, but with the mutation that has now been found, we have an even greater responsibility for the rest of the world as well,” Frederiksen said in a news conference, according to Reuters.

At least 5 cases of the new strain of the virus were found on farms and at least 12 in humans, Danish authorities said, according to Reuters.

Frederiksen said the slaughter would happen as soon as possible and would involve the armed forces, according to The New York Times.

@Redondo  Same thing happened in the mid north.  Makes you wonder if the mink is the transmitter of the disease, just like rats were transmitters of the plague.  Minks are popular in the US and Europe.  Also Minks and Ferrets are in the same family.

I think there are so few hospitalizations in Orange County because of the precautions and lockdowns that have taken place there.

Let's say the numbers would be double if we didn't lock down. If you would have told me in March that if we shut down the economy and crush businesses everywhere to save some 3,000 people or so in this county I would have told you to go fuck yourself.

3,000 people. I mean that's not a lot. But if there was even a slight chance one of those could be a close family member I certainly would care more about that than the economy.

Spare me. This county is over 3.2 million people. The odds of dying from it here are astronomical. Nursing home deaths count for over a third of them.
