Those are some big assumptions.

Will anybody trade a #2 starter for what we have? Probably not, unless Adell is in the mix.

I didn’t see anything about a #2...get a solid arm with #3-4 floor and #2 upside m. Control and reasonable arb price tag as bonus variables.

Marsh-plus probably gets them a ‘name’ arm, if they need one.

Have to remember that teams with small payrolls will overvalue cheap, controlled arms like Barria, Suarez, and Sandoval. Won’t be centerpieces but they’re worth more to certain clubs.

Also, what assumptions? All I said is you can trade pitching for pitching, even in the Angels current position. They can still sign other arms and a sure-thing is more valuable to us than one of many unproven arms.

I just think those guys are worth more to the Angels.

Who do you think would be a target that fits? Sandoval seems like he could easily be a Boyd type so....

There is such a huge range of arms and a huge range of prospects it’s really hard to say, especially because I think the top FA arm they do sign, whoever it is, greatly influences the other deals.

There’s a lot of September left too. Guys like Thaiss, Rengifo, Ward, Walsh, Hermosillo, and Suarez can dramatically change the offseason course if they perform really well or really poor, either by manipulating their trade value or pushing their case for 2020 playing time.

For example, Barria has been pretty solid starting outside of two games with an opener. In 2019, his production doesn’t help much. If he replicates most of his true SP game 2019 trends on a 2020 team where he’s the everyday #5 SP and there’s a better bullpen behind him and three better arms in front of him - full season Heaney, Ohtani, and a FA - then he’d be just fine. Sandoval is making a case to be at least in the carousel for the last rotation spot, and honestly, a strong September could pencil him into the 2020 rotation in my mind.

I also think going all-or-nothing for 2020, no holds barred, fix every problem this offseason is a dumb approach too, so personally, that takes a lot of pressure off making a dramatic trade or move for a second arm.
