Richards wasn’t nearly as extreme in terms of how bad he was when he was off. When he was on he was much better than Canning but Canning is a rookie so it’s hard to compare.

So, you really never saw Richards pitch. He was a burning torch of anger all the time with no control for the first two years. But you can remeber what you want. Very few pitchers that have come through the minor leagues did as well as Weaver or Lacky. Every other pitcher had a huge learning curve, some prevailed, some just fell off the radar.

Lackey I remember couldn't pitch past the 5th inning without getting completely bumfucked. Then he learned what pitching was and the rest is history.

The thing I remember about Ramon Ortiz was that he was just so freaking fidgety on the mound.  He'd grab his nut sack after every pitch he threw.
