The Reds added Bauer, Gray, Roark, and Wood in less than a year.  Why can’t we be smart enough to do that?

All of them.  Literally every minor leaguer.  Bizarre...Not sure why Bauer is viewed as all THAT valuable.

they gave up 

jeter downs (.826 ops in A+ as a 20yo) 2b/SS.  borderline top 100.  dogs #7 prospect
josiah gray - era of 2.00 in 108 ip and 119k at three levels.  just promoted to AA as a 20yo.  Dogs #5 prospect
taylor trammel - #30 prospect in baseball
Shed long
competitive balance pick at the end of round 1.  
Tanner Rainey - 26yo  reliever with a 4 era in 24ip and 37k. 

roark is a FA after the season
wood is a FA after the season
Sonny gray would have been a FA after the season but instead they paid him 40m to stay (looks like a good deal for now).
Bauer has 1 more year of control.  

They've gutted their farm for a bunch of guys who have less than 2 years of control.  

if the Angels did what they did, I would stop being an Angel fan for awhile.  

reds also gave up their #12 prospect Scott Moss - 24yo lefty starter with a 3.44 era in AA.  102ip and 123k.  back to middle potential.  

they're just nuts.

It could be the best 3 minutes in baseball this year. Too bad he didn’t land the first punch. And then whoever Osuna lands a solid sucker punch on Garrett while he’s on the ground, after hitting a three run bomb just one at bat prior.

Reyes has an ops+ of 121 this year and is 24yo.  Not a free agent till 2025. 
Puig is done at years end
Logan Allen is a top 100 prospect at 22yo in AAA.  Middle rotation or better upside.  
Victor Nova is a 19yo IF/OF (mostly 3b) with an .871 ops in the AZL. 
Scott Moss is a 24yo lefty.  Likely a back end starter with middle rotation upside.  

just a reminder, Bauer had a 2.21 era last year and an era near 4 for the rest of his career and he's got 1yr of control left after this year.  

It's not quite the fleecing that Tampa put on pitt for Archer, but the indians did well here.

Yeah its a great trade for Cleveland on paper but it's odd to me to see a team continue to sell off parts while in the middle of a pennant chase.

I think that says more about Bauer than anything.

Bauer has also said he only wants to sign one year contracts. Maybe that wasn’t something Cleveland wanted to deal with when he hit FA in 2021 and they maximized his return by trading him now. As far as Cleveland being in a pennant chase they’re set to get Kluber back as early as mid-August and Danny Salazar is coming back and may be used in a starter role before possibly being added to the rotation or pen.
