Silver Lining - Luis Rengifo

With the Simmons injury I believe there is a silver lining. Despite his average, he has shown a willingness to work the count, hit the ball the other way and has hit the ball hard. Rengifo will step up in a big way with regular playing time.

Luckily the main problem has been starting pitching, not the offense. Hopefully the drop in production (offensively and defensively) from Simmons to Rengifo (with Fletch at shortstop) won't be drastic.

Why do people keep saying this?  What if he starts twice a week now instead of the one game he started last week.  Hell he isn’t starting today when Rengifo traveled today or last night to get here.

Because as long as he is here, the specter is that he will get some sort of playing time, and usually go 0-3 or 0-4.   Wasted spot in the lineup with overrated defense skills because he probably can't throw the ball like he used to either.

Rengifro will get consistent playing time for at least a month.  This will give the club time to see if he is a starter or a backup.  He looks like he is an elite defender however bat is still a question mark.

So is he hurting the franchise playing once a week?  When the alternative is bringing up an actual prospect and stunt their development

It's just an AW thing to assume worst case scenario... he's a punch line. You should know that.

You obviously can't bench Simmons, one of the best hitters on the team and beat defensive SS on the planet. But you can't bench Rengifo when he's getting on base at a .400+ clip. But you also can't bench Fletcher when he's hitting over .300 and is the hardest hitter in baseball to strike out. You can't bench La Stella who is suddenly a .290 30 HR hitter. 

I'm thinking that's when Albert's at bats will dry up. La Stella will move to 1B, Rengifo at 2B, Simmons at short and Fletch at 3B.

I am very pleased with how hes come along but its going to hurt him having virtually no power.  In the age of three trues you gotta hit bombs if youre going to hit >250.
