The Hernandez trade shows just how hard it is at the trade deadline when you're a borderline wild card team....you don't want to sit tight and do nothing because you'll be viewed as "not trying' to either win or rebuild...but we really weren't in position to be buyers or sellers so Eppler makes a relatively minor move and it may end up being a big mistake....and for full disclosure, I was ok with it at the time....

20.27 ERA in the last 17 days. The tenets of Scioscialism will keep him pitching at critical times in big games.

At the time, I thought the Hernandez trade made no sense and now looks very bad. He wasn't making much, so it wasn't a salary dump. Also, the odds of the guy they picked up ever becoming a solid Major League pitcher is about as likely as the odds that Scioscia will drop Pujols down in the lineup this season.

You're right, the trade makes no sense whatsoever. He's sorely missed right now. At least we have Trout who bailed us out last night, but you just don't remove one of the really good pieces in this bullpen without consequences.

Doing nothing would have been an improvement over dumping a reliever that was doing fairly well for a guy thats literally nothing but low level fodder who will never likely see the majors.   I cant even fathom why that deal was made.
The Front office was literally telling both us and the roster that they were done with the year.  There is no other explanation for making that deal at that time.  I was infuriated that this was all they could manage.
The team keeps fighting to get back into the race and the front office and manager keep trying to fuck it up.

a lack of meaningful strikes and a lack of fastball movement.  He's got a good slider and changeup.  His fastball is firm and straight.  When he doesn't command his secondary pitches, hitters sit fastball and because he throws hard, the ball doesn't take a lot to get out.

That's some really good scouting ... I take back what I said about you last night.
