Norris off the top of my head in the last couple of weeks

Recommended Posts

20.27 ERA in the last 17 days. The tenets of Scioscialism will keep him pitching at critical times in big games.

At the time, I thought the Hernandez trade made no sense and now looks very bad. He wasn't making much, so it wasn't a salary dump. Also, the odds of the guy they picked up ever becoming a solid Major League pitcher is about as likely as the odds that Scioscia will drop Pujols down in the lineup this season.

Im at a bar. Went to pee, team was cruising, came back baffled.

In his defense, we wouldnt be in the mix if wasnt for the first half. Hes obviously turned pumpkin though.

I'm stuck waiting on a delayed flight back east for my son's travel team tourney in Cooperstown.  At least I got to watch Santa Margarita Little League advance to WEST Championship Saturday.  Was on ESPN tonight. That was FUN baseball to watch.  Bud Norris ruined my high.

What caused this epic tank job?

He's only pitched 44 innings in almost 3/4 of a season.   That ain't a big workload for a former starter!

a lack of meaningful strikes and a lack of fastball movement.  He's got a good slider and changeup.  His fastball is firm and straight.  When he doesn't command his secondary pitches, hitters sit fastball and because he throws hard, the ball doesn't take a lot to get out.

That was a pretty straight pitch over the outer half to Cruz, and he absolutely destroyed it.

His command isn't all that either, 21 BBs in 44 innings, putrid for late innings work.

that's the nit with him.  he throws hard but still needs command to be successful.  he doesn't have a fearful fastball.  Some guys can get away with perfect command or really good secondary pitches because of a dominant fastball.  he can't.

@ Cleveland

@Toronto

Oakland

Tonight @ Seattle

Those four games would be really nice to have right now.

Although your point is well taken, that first game in Cleveland does not belong in this category. That's a game the Angels trailed 7-0. It was tied when Norris entered. Even if Norris had pitched a scoreless inning, the Angels very well may have lost that game because I think they were running out of pitchers.

And, although it was after your post, the Angels obviously won this one.

So he's (mostly) responsible for 2 losses.

He's had two of the biggest 9th inning meltdowns I can remember in over 40 years of watching the Angels. I think the Toronto game was the biggest 9th inning comeback in the history of the franchise.
