Beyond the performance and health questions, Hamilton’s record includes a troubled history with substance abuse that stretches to the early stages of his professional career. But Texas was willing to take on the associated risks when it accepted a small piece of the remainder of his contract with Los Angeles, and obviously feels that he has held up his end of the bargain since coming back into the fold.

By not playing?

Sign him to a ten-year contract, Texas.

He'll do what he needs to do through spring in order to make the Rangers roster.  Then he'll go on the DL for the better part of the season while he collects his half mil in free money.  We'll see him in the Rangers dugout from time to time.  

He's basically become their mascot at this point.  

Honestly, I think this is just short of charity on the Rangers part at this point.  It essentially keeps Josh from being dead in a ditch.

In the past couple of years Hamilton has demonstrated that he can avoid relapse when he stands to gain $60 million of free money by doing so.  That's why I think he's a fraud.  A hopeless addict couldn’t do this.

He already has a contract, $26.41M paid by Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, $2M paid by Texas Rangers whether he plays next year or not. I guess Texas is just deciding to give him a spot on the 25 man roster or just let him sit out the season at home.
