Smell the Bloom?

Recommended Posts

What would be the conditions that would usher in a Presidential run by Michael Bloomberg?  He's a smart guy, so I can't see him spending his time and money unless he actually thought he had a shot.

On the Republican side:  Trump.  If he sees an inevitable Trump path to the GOP nomination (which appears to be at hand now), he's got to view that as a reason to get in the race.  He's got to feel that, with more than half the country repulsed by him, that he could beat Trump

On the Democratic side:  Either Clinton or Sanders.  The dislike for Clinton in this country is almost as strong as it is for Trump.  And Sanders comes with a "socialist" name tag that most Americans would not take the time to fully understand.  He's got to feel that, with the right message, he could take beat either of them too.

So with these conditions lining up, does he get in?  And if he does get in, does he have a shot?

If he does get in, I'm trying to figure out who he helps/hurts more.  It seems like a run by Bloomberg would potentially be strong and more viable than Ross Perot's run... but maybe not.

Hard to say. Bloomberg, as far as I know, is similarly centrist to Hillary, so would likely take votes from her. But my guess is that if either Trump or Cruz is the nominee, you'll have a lot of independents voting for Hillary or Bloomberg, so it could be a viable three-way fight.

Bloomberg also offers someone for those Republicans who don't want to vote for Trump, and the more moderate Dems and Independents who don't like Hillary.

Here's another thought. If Bloomberg jumps in, why not Bernie as well? We'd have a legit four-way presidential race. Obviously Bernie wouldn't do it if Bloomberg didn't jump in, because it would probably assure the presidency to Trump, but with Bloomberg in there, he'd be taking a lot of Republican votes from Trump and a lot of moderate votes from Hillary, and Bernie could take the leftist/progressive group. In that scenario, Hillary might find herself in fourth place.

I think if Bernie wanted to do that, he'd have to pull the trigger on making that move now.  Clinton's already been hitting him on not being a "true Democrat."  Very much the same way the GOP field is hitting Trump.

It would be an interesting angle for him.  He should do it.  But again, I think he has to move now.

God ... what a circus this would all be!  I love it!

If it's a choice between Trump and Hilary.  I am definitely looking at other candidates.

I think what would also help would be a very strong running mate.

Another interesting wrinkle may be the fallen.  Has any of the fallen really backed any other candidate yet?

Wow!  Good call!

Who could he grab as a running mate that would make it a real race with the Rs and Ds?

I can't decide who I think Bloomberg would pull more votes from, Dems or the GOP.  Because I think his running mate should appeal to the other.

Nikki Haley would be a great pick for him, but I doubt she'd leave the GOP.  Biden would be a great pick for him, but I doubt he'd leave the Dems (or do another 4 years as VP).

I don't really care much for Bloomberg but I'd vote for him over anyone from either party.

See, that's why I think he has a shot.  There's so many people I know (on both sides) that feel that way.  Especially if it's Clinton and Trump.

So, the handful of like minded people that you associate with feel the same way...therefore the rest of the country feels the same way?
