While I like Morneau as a depth signing he will have no place to play when Albert comes back.

I like Morneau as a depth piece too. Obviously, he doesn't address either need at LF or 2B, but I think he's probably a more capable 1B back-up to Pujols than Cron.

Soto - C, Morneau - 1B/DH, Pennington - IF, and Nava - OF would be a very solid bench.

Again, I don't mind of course not giving any more stupid contracts to/trading for declining players, and for that I say thank you Arte Moreno.

That being said, you don't have to totally go the other direction either and overcompensate.

If Upton or Cespedes were to somehow come down to say $20 million/season for 5 years, and you turned that down for two players of which neither is declining, that is OVER compensation for the bad transactions.

Ozuna's asking price probably closer to Heaney, but Skaggs probably a good middle ground.

i could actually see a deal come together centered around Ozuna and Skaggs, that could be expanded with a list of players on both sides like Dietrich and a Marlins reliever (Morris or Dunn?) for Bandy/Ward, Kubitza/Cowart, or Tropeano/Smith/DeLoach, Bedrosian.

Ozuna is one of those guys where there are going to be a few teams that really covet him and think he's worth more than Heaney.  While that might be a fair deal in terms of straight up value, I can definitely see how other teams would offer more.

It's all moot anyway as the marlins are now saying they are unlikely to trade him after signing Chen.
