when he and manny were in their prime, they were a lethal combination. i'm sure that's the kind of middle of the order bats this franchise has coveted for a long time.

I'll admit to loving the drama of baseball. If I had to choose between watching any game other than an Angel game I would watch Yankees vs Boston for the drama of it all. That is of course if there isn't something compelling about another game on.

I am sure he can afford his own gifts. The guy treats people well from what I have read, so I could see him doing something similar to what Rivera did when he retired, which was thank the behind the scenes guys at each stadium.

Perhaps, Strad. I guess I'm just not a fan of the look-at-me, false humility associated with these farewell tours. As many issues I've had regarding Kobe's often times lack of class that rides along with his unworldly talent, I was very impressed that he shot down any idea of a similar thing for him.

I will always remember him for two things:

 

1.  That an Angels pitcher never hit beaned him.

 

2.  His usual HR stare/bat toss at Boston after Garrett Richards was taken off the field on a stretcher and whoever Angel pitcher with a cold arm came in and served it up.  Yes, the class of the game will be missed.

I love David Ortiz - one of my favorite players to watch. I'll always remember his epic home run in game 4 of the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees. 12th inning, 2-run homer to win the game. The Red Sox went on to win three more to beat the Yankees after being down 0-3, and then win their first World Series in, what, 90 years? Such great baseball drama.
