Maybe, scoreboard stats such as runs and rbis will sway voters more so. Donaldson produced a combined 51 more runs and rbis over Trout. I see that as being the deciding factor.

The narrative that implies that the team didn't make the playoffs because Mike Trout had a bad August is horse pucky.  The only reason they even had a chance in the first place is because of him.  

 

That a component of his poor stats for the year were concentrated into a single month is sheer happenstance.  If he had spread those poor numbers out over the entire year and ended up with the same overall numbers, would you still feel the same way?  

 

Donaldson had a bad June and the Jays went 18-9.  He had a terrific May and they went 12-17.  

 

To imply that Mike Trout shouldn't win the mvp because the 24 other guys around him shit the bed around him while he also struggled for a short period is ludicrous.

 

They have a name for a guy that almost single handedly leads his team to the playoffs whereas if he wasn't there the team would have been nowhere near playoff contention.  

 

It's called the MVP.  

 

August was a good example of what this team would be like if we had Peter Bourjos in CF instead of Mike Trout.
