I was forced to join a Union to continue working on the same show I had previously had been doing for nearly 10 years. It did not improve my wages but it did increase my expenses and set me up where I would lose employment in event of a strike, even for a non related field since the Union has a broader affiliation. My time in the workforce will never reach the requirements for a pension since this will only be for the next 5-6 years.

So your viewpoint of the value of unions are not exactly in step with the real world.
