Featherston

He's a rule 5 pick. He would be in AA if the Angels could send him there but if they did that the Cubs could take him back. All they wanted out of him was to get some big league experience and be good defensively. I think has done that. And why choose now to complain about him? After the Angels destroy Texas for 3 straight games

He's still pretty raw when it comes to handling major league pitches, but he seems to have a pretty decent eye. Yeah, he hasn't walked much, but it seems like he works the county fairly well before inevitably popping out or swinging through a MLB-caliber out pitch.

If he can be the type of prospect that can actually develop while sitting so often, and the Angels hold into him and he can go back to SLC next year, he may be a solid utility player in 2016/2017.

Remember all last year people were bitching about McDonald, he won us games with his glove last year. Now Featherston hasn't shown to be as good as McDonald but his arm from short is strong (just ask Cano). Give him the rest of the year unless you somehow acquire a very good piece where you can afford to let him walk.

I wonder why Dipoto didn't go this route - see attached. Then we could have had someone more productive on the roster.

Because he still would have to be offered back to the Rockies, even if every team passed on the waiver claim.

Was checking out halos heaven for the first time after you posted that link. Good god is that a horrible website. Somebody actually said that we should have offered Newcomb for Ben Revere because we don't have any other starting pitching prospects that any team would want. LOL

Tom, that is the second halosheaven story you have linked to. Number three gets you a timeout

And a psych evaluation.

Sorry, I guess I wondered into the wrong building, LOL.

ELEVEN -- 'and for that (Rule V) we keep him on the 25 man roster all year/"

EXACTLY -- been saying that since Opening Day.

back in the day when players stayed with one team for seven to ten years, it might make sense to keep a guy (even one like Featherston) on the roster because 'he's a Rule V  guy' and 'we don't want to lose him'

but today - with player shelf life with one team three to four years and even less for utility or back up MIF's like Featherston -- why in the world would you essentially give up a roster spot ALL SEASON for a guy who may get 75 ABs and play in about 50 games, if that? and PLUS -- really isn' t the heir apparent starter for 2016 at either SS or 2B.

ELEVEN - I'm with you on this one.........

I feel like Rutledge could give us the same defense, but with a better bat. I know I'm bitching when we're winning, but I don't see how he helps us *right now*. Yeah, he's got decent speed, but when the rosters expand, we've got plenty of guys who can do that. Yeah, he's got a good arm and can play multiple positions, but we have another guy who can do that, who's better with the bat.
