California Immunization Bill passes House

It isn't about just the kids that aren't getting vaccinated, it is about all the kids that are put in danger by the ones that aren't being vaccinated.  I have no problem with this ruling.

I know, you are forcing a medical procedure on another person so you can feel safer.

Those that can afford it.

Forced medical procedures for the win.

are you willing for your kids to come home having been exposed to whooping cough or german measles or whatever else? i'm not. these are preventable diseases that don't need to spread. why not do something to keep that from happening?

Absolutely.  It is a price you pay for a free society.

I'm also willing to face a little more crime so our society can be free from local, state and federal spying, warrantless searches etc.

I'm also willing to face a little more danger from the terrorists so that they don't have to face drones dropping bombs on them.

I want the least amount of government involvement in my life as possible.  There is always risk.

We could go the other way.  Its been shown that genetics play a part in criminal behavior in families.  We could force criminals to be sterilized so they can't procreate.  We would be safer.  Our society could save billions of dollars if we sterilize women with more than two children.

i think where you and i differ on this is the issue of public safety. i think gov't has a responsibility to look out for the greater good. stopping the spread of life-threatening yet preventable diseases would be high on that list for me.

i appreciate you wanting to stop the spread of gov't reaching into too many areas of our lives, but on this issue i disagree with you completely. as someone with a propensity for lung problems, i don't want to be put in the position of having to fight off an infection that is going to cause me a lot of personal distress, especially if that exposure could have been prevented by something simple like an immunization for my students.

Any law "forces" people to do things, possibly against their will. Some laws "force" people to do one thing in order to do another. This isn't a new concept or a bad one. If people don't want to vaccinate their kids, then they can have their children educated outside of the public school system. it's a matter of choice. Some might even say that they're free to make their own decision.

every one has a personal connection to something. Our society has been handing over our rights to feel safer.

I think forcing a medical procedure on anyone is beyond any reach the government should be doing.  I'm not saying I'm surprised, but I still think it is the wrong direction for us to go

It's not being forced. It's just a matter of the government saying if you'd like access to this public service (free education) you must have your children vaccinated. If you really don't want to do that though, it's fine. Just take them to a private school or teach them at home.
