This has been a great year for Trout defensively. The last couple years he had been an average center fielder. He has been phenomenal this year, I love it.

personally i don't understand the "average" fielder sentiment, but i don't put much stock in the defensive metrics, admittedly.

I can understand how Trout is an average fielder. If you take away his speed, athleticism and skills, he  is absolutely average.

 

 

Seriously people? Let us enjoy an amazing player without debating what he is or is not.

I agree with that eligrba, but when you compare his routes the last couple years versus guys like, Bourjus, Erstad, Edmonds, Devon White or Pettis, you could understand why we think he's an average the last couple years. That being said, you know how I'm wired, I'm wired to focus on the positive in players.

His raw arm strength is below average for outfielders but he has turned some impressive double plays due to excellent accuracy.
