It's a much happier lifestyle than 90% of those living n suburbia.  I won't judge.  We've all been there.  Whenever I go to Hawaii I live the same way for the couple weeks I'm there.  Some people prefer it full-time, personally the life back home begins to tug after a week so I come home.  But that's just me.

Hipster?

More like an anti-hipster. I liked the article and will follow his career now.

A lot of people with ample resources choose to live simply. I won't ever have a facebook and only use a prepaid cell phone that stays in the glove compartment in case of emergency. Don't need that crap.

Not really. People aren't constantly posting pictures of their dinner and children.

Maybe you haven't spent any time in the hangout forum.

To be honest, I dream of a life like this and wish I did more of it when I was younger even though I spent a lot of time living in a boat sailing up and down the coast and riding bikes.Sadly, work, wife and kids made me swallow the anchor and I can only get out for a week or so at a time now.

A Westfalia van is far from interesting unless you are wondering if it will start or climb a hill.

We had a 1984 VW van when I was a kid. I can recall at least two family vacations where we got stranded and had to find a mechanic because that POS broke down.
