Headley Agrees to Deal with Yankees

Let's see....Headley's one year younger than Freese, about the same with the bat - maybe a touch better - and solidly better with the glove, but Freese is still decent. I'm wondering if Freese will get something like 3/$30M next year. Hard to believe.

 

I don't know. Freese was looking like a non-tender candidate by the All Star break. He's walking a fine line. If you believe the defensive numbers, Headly could've really softened the blow of losing Kendrick. As it stands, I'm quite worried about the infield defense.

So what are they planning to do with A-Rod?  That's a ton of money ($21M '15, $20M '16, $20M '17) to leave sitting on the bench... then again it is the Yankees...

 

probably put arod at DH and headley at third. that's what i'd do.

Player B has seen his OPS+ go from 145, to 116, to 102.    

 

Headley's been a bit underrated over the course of his career, but that three year sample overrates him.   He's had one season where he posted an OPS+ above 120.

 

Its quite possible the Yanks aren't worried about his bat and simply love what he brings with the glove.  His glove is legit.

I see the upside of Headley but the reality of him is he isn't enough of an overall upgrade to spend the extra money on.

 

That's a heck of a lot of money for a guy who is a long way from being an impact player.

The Red Sux must think they will return to post-season play soon, because Panda's main part of his worth is his career post-season numbers since 2010.

But that is a lot to pay when you are coming off of TWO last place finishes in the past 3 seasons.

Yeah man, they have problems left and right...     But FWIW, improved run prevention has been proven to have a greater impact on winning than run production.   Regardless, I was never on the Chase Headley bandwagon.

The last 3 years Hamilton has put up 6.9 WAR (BR). About half of what Headley has and has $90 million owed to him.

Howie over that same span has put up 11.7 WAR and didn't get us an established ace.

The Yankees should automatically score more runs since they wont give 630 plate appearances to a guy with an ops+ of 76.
