I had heard that there was a chance that Newcomb would be promoted straight to high-A for the 2015 season.

No idea.  Apparently just to get used to being a "pro" or some crap like that.  It sounds like he might get a start or two in Burlington to end the year.

Maybe because he threw over 100 innings this year in college and they want more of a controlled environment.

It's not like he would throw more in Burlington... They can easily control his innings.

A college pitcher such as Newcomb wouldn't gain much from any level of Rookie Ball or even A Ball for an extended period of time. The best collegiate pitchers go straight to AA, like Michael Roth did and that's what I expect to happen here with Newcomb.

But if they decide Inland Empire, that's fine too.

With only 4-5 weeks left in the minor league season, he wouldn't get to throw much more this season. So, does anyone one think he would play in the Arizona Instructional League this fall?
