If the innings at a young age is a concern, then why didn't it affect Kuroda until late 2013, when he was already well into his late 30s?

If Tanaka was 28-29, I could see the concern with a 6-7 year deal.

But Tanaka will be just 31 even at the end of a 7 year deal.

Besides, with Weaver and Wilson here, he can settle in as the #3 for the first couple of seasons.

And yes, the foreign presence reset needs to be said. This org has had a total lack of it for a while now. A decent number of franchises have passed up the Halos partly because of it, surprising given having an Hispanic owner.

The likes of Jose Rondon and Ricardo Sanchez may be slowly changing that tune, but Tanaka's signing would drive home the point of using ALL options to building a strong franchise!

Shigetoshi Hasegawa was the most recent and ONLY Halos player signed from Japan for playing at the MLB level right away, SEVENTEEN years ago!

Signing Tanaka isnt a re-commitment towards a foreign presence, it's just more of the same --  a FA signing.

The way the system is now teams cannot exploit the Latin markets as they could in the past.  That window has closed and the era of signing pools is here..  The only way the Angels will be able to beat teams in Latin America will be to out-scout them or play the old school games of hiding players from other teams.

Australia, Latin America, Asia..  The Angels need to significantly add to their scouting budgets in those areas..

Exactly Cezero, why are people concerned about a soon-to-be 25 year old, just because he made a lot of pitches in a WS game and some others?

It's safe to assume that Darvish had a similar background, and came over here at a somewhat similar age. He's showing zero signs of slowing down.

Well said cezero.

Strasburg has been said to have fantastic mechanics and he's already had one surgery and has seen a decline on his fastball. Some pitchers just don't get arms that can have that type of workload.
