Twins Agree To Terms With Ricky Nolasco

Recommended Posts

We can laugh all we want at Vargas' and Nolasco's contracts yet the reality that is the market rate. If we want reliable starting pitching that is what you are going to have to pay.

If we don't land Tanaka expect this to be our starting rotation:

Weaver

Wilson

Richards

Hughes (or simar pitcher)

Blanton/Williams/Hanson

Does this help us trade Blanton with the way starting pitching is getting paid? Is it worth tendering Hanson and seeing if some team will trade for him?

Maybe Hanson, but not Blanton. If you were a MLB GM, would you want Blanton (even if the Angels ate most of the rest of his contract and it only cost you 2-3 million)? GM's would rather go with someone from the farm system that has some potential. Someone from the farm will put up better numbers than Blanton.

Giants Nearing Deal With Ryan Vogelsong

By Jeff Todd [November 28 at 12:45am CST]

The Giants are moving toward a deal with free agent starter Ryan Vogelsong, tweets Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle. San Francisco recently declined a $6.5MM club option on the 36-year-old righty.

Another questionable signing by the Giants.

I can remember someone on here trying to convince me that Vogelsong was some tremendous pitcher that we should trade for just a year or two ago. Good thing that didn't happen.

Twins turning to Hughes now. If we don't get Tanaka and aren't willing to go over the salary cap, then we're going to have to trade Trumbo, Howie, or Aybar for a #3/4 and sign guys like Scott Baker and Jeff Niemann to minor league deals and hope one of them can become a solid 5 starter.

xboom there are a couple of different reasons. First each team still has a budget from year to year. Also We are paying Albert, big time money in 8 years, but it is today's version of a big time contract. We have no idea what a big time contract will look like in 8 years. I am guessing it won't be much better than $30million. But Pujols is a rare case.
