What is the reason then for DiPoto backloading these contracts to Pujols and Hamilton? If it takes AAV, there is no point in getting creative to stay under the cap.

 

To try to spread out the actual money and make room despite the fact they had a guy like Wells on the roster...   

 

The luxury tax is a league mandated threshold, the Angels internal budget is altogether different.
