Maybe Bourjos needs to stay and Trout goes back to LF?

I believe a lot of the difference came from the pitching. Blanton was so terrible I think he made his defense look terrible as well. If we upgrade the rotation I believe we'll see a huge improvement in these defensive numbers.

We should be mindful of the defensive lineup as well though. Guys like Trumbo are not contributing on the defensive end, which is yet another reason that he should be the primary trade candidate. I know a lot of people dislike Bourjos but I still think our best lineup has him in centerfield and Trout in left. Callhoun replaces Trumbo at DH/1B/LF/RF and likely does a better job (he has all the tools to be an above average corner defender).

Trading Trumbo also allows us to keep our defense up the middle, which I still believe is an asset for this team. The author also suggests Peralta for third. I really like this move because we'd be moving him down in the defensive spectrum. His poor rating as a defensive shortstop is likely an above average rating defensively at third, where his bat should play well.

sorry, I am not normally an English cop sort, but $1 brillion cracked me up.

Ha! I originally wrote 1 trillion.

I think the owners are reluctant to go into luxury tax territory not because of competitive reasons -- they don't want to draw the off the record wrath of the commissioners office. That plus the desire to not share profits with other owners (through the tax).

I've never been a huge Bourjos fan but the kid is starting to grow on me. I'm not so sure anymore that Trout should be patrolling center field. It's a lot of wear and tear on the body ... Matt Kemp.  I think a healthy Bourjos may be the ticket next season.

As a side note, whether you like Bourjos or not, allowing him a chance to reestablish his player value next season would greatly benefit the Angels if the season goes awry and they need to make more trades before the deadline and/or in the off season. A good year out of Bourjos would reinforce the reality of his 2011 season. In fact he doesn't even have to hit 4.2 WAR again.... a 3+ WAR season with premier CF defense would see his value skyrocket.
