The rules have always been there to enable the House to appropriate money as they saw fit. Just because they haven't done business like this recently doesn't mean they "changed  the rules".

It's time to cut back on the servings on the Democrats' dinner table. Time for the beast to stop gorging and live within its means.

Reaching the debt ceiling does not mean that the government will default on the outstanding government debt. In fact, the U.S. Constitution forbids defaulting on the debt (14th Amendment, Section 4), so the government is not allowed to default even if it wanted to.

In reality, if the debt ceiling is not raised in the next two weeks, the government will actually have to prioritize its expenses and keep its monthly, weekly, and daily spending under the revenue the government collects. In simple terms, the government would have to spend an amount less than or equal to what it earns. Just like ordinary Americans have to do in their everyday lives.

Once the reality of what hitting the debt ceiling means is understood, the important question is: can the government actually live with a balanced budget? How much money could it spend? Could enough spending be cut to live within a balanced budget? The answer is yes, the federal government could live with a balanced budget. ...

The government can run with a balanced budget but it would probably affect the 46 million americans on food stamps costing over $6 billion a month. Can you imagine the riots if the the EBT cards didn't work?

Time to grab the popcorn.

We had a glimpse of that this weekend. EBT cards in a bunch of states didn't work, and when they finally did, some of them mistakenly had no limits. People with those no-limit cards emptied shelves at a Walmart before the government fixed the problem.

Wait. Didn't Red say are debt was fake?

misquotes are awesome, all you have to do is drop "crisis" from the statement and suddenly it fits, well, I guess something

But I apparently was wrong, apparently we can create a debt crisis by electing some tea party patriots...job well done

They spent $600 million dollars on this website and it doesn't work. The government needs to get a refund from the software company.

And how can a website cost $600 million??? That doesn't seem right.

h

ey the government has to launder money, too.   just like every other criminal enterprise
