ALCS TIGERS/REDSOX and Joe West

fielder has been a goat in this series

Honestly. 2 GLARING HOLES in this Detroits lineup this postseason was both Cabrera and Prince.

Practically no shows. Whiffing in clutch situations. These are supposed to be the guys that come through.

Hell, Torii came through more on his own than these 2 guys did together.

Here are some interesting numbers regarding the series.

Boston Batting: .BA .202, OBP .277, SLG .609, 19 Runs

Detroit Batting: BA .254, OBP .329, SLG .659, 18 Runs

Boston Pitching: SP gave up 17 ERs, Pen gave up 1 ER!

Detroit Pitching: SP gave up 9 ERs, Pen gave up 6 ERs.

Detroit out hit Boston by a good margin. But their Pen was horrendous. Ortiz had 2 hits the entire series and the 1 hit was a game winning grand slam. Victorino only had 3 hits, 1 being a series clinching grand slam and led the team with 5 RBIs. Detroit got beat by 2 guys who were automatic outs in the series.

Cabrera actually had a decent series with a BA .273 and led the team with 4 RBIs. Fielder was a disaster with the bat, glove, and running. Iglesias had 2 errors, but hit well (BA .357, OBP .400). But without a doubt it was Detroit's pen that did them in.

Without looking..that's probably close to how the A's played the Tigers.

The Tigers committed error after error and their base running was horrendous. The bullpen management in game 2 was also bizarre and that's what did them in.

Tigers committed 4 errors. The BoSox committed 3 errors. I wouldn't consider that "error after error". Their bullpen blew it for them and Fielder didn't help.

The Tigers are fairly one-dimensional and once their bats disappeared, they didn't have much to mitigate that deficiency. Their bullpen isn't great, but they have some good pitchers like Smyly and Benoit. The issue was that Leyland was using three or four relievers in an inning and it was just ridiculous.
