The writer failed to acknowledge that Vargas has had a solid season, aside from the blood clot. He was, after all, AL pitcher of the month for May.

I would say that it's disingenuous when he included Vargas in the group of pitchers that haven't panned out.

I thought it was a fair assessment of the situation.  In my book, Vargas did not live up to expectations.  He has to do more than be pitcher of the month for one month, he needs to be consistent for the entire season if he is expected to be a top flight starter.  Some of it was out of his control because of injury, the rest was mixed bag other than May.
