The Angels should just avoid making trades with smart organizations like the Braves. The joke of it is that they let go of Hanson after his last cheap year, so the Angels have paid $3.7M for his performance this year.

 

Hanson presents a bit of a puzzle. Money aside I'd like to see him stay in Salt Lake next year in an attempt to rebuild himself in a Kazmirian manner, and as depth. But we have to take money into account. I'm assuming he wouldn't get much via arbitration, but he won't get less than he did this year - so you'd be paying about $4M for a back-up starter in AAA, something most teams don't want to do.

Really, the Braves were caught with Tex in 08....with Boras as his agent, he was a goner for sure and there wasn't a better deal on the table than what the Angels offered...if Kotch pans out, it's a good deal for them...
