  1. $14 mil for Kendrys would be pretty good for him. His numbers in 2013 were pretty much in line with his numbers last year, despite Seattle's reputation for destroying hitters. That said, I don't think those numbers would be worth $14 mil a year even on a short-term deal. If he really wants out of Seattle, and into more of a hitter's park to build value, that's a bummer for him. He didn't exactly choose to go to Seattle. He hasn't come close to showing his form from 2009 and the beginning of '10, though. For what he is as a player, $14 million is solid. I don't think he gets an AAV over $10 mil anywhere else, much less $14. Best thing for him if he's dead-set on getting a long-term deal would be to take a cheaper deal with a team that plays in a hitter's park. Losing that 1st round pick (unless it's a team with a protected pick) would probably knock his price down quite a bit. As for Vargas, I think the Angels have to make him the offer. He was quietly a big part of their staff this season. He had a shaky first month, and that fluke injury, but other than that he was solid. He's just the sort of guy the Angels need in that 3 spot. Look at what the 4 and 5 spots have been this year. They essentially gave away Ervin Santana, and they got nothing back for Haren. Either of those guys would have been a lot better than what the Angels trotted out there every 4th and 5th day this year. Like Morales, the qualifying offer probably lowers his price if he wants a multi-year deal. The only problem would be if a team with a protected pick grabs him, but I don't see one of those teams picking up Vargas for that kind of money. He's more of a complimentary piece than a rotation centerpiece. Doesn't really do as much for a team in rebuilding mode.
  2. The Red Sox fans that have jumped on the bandwagon since 04 are pretty bad. I won't go to games when the Yankees or Red Sox come to town, unless it's the playoffs (not a problem the last 4 years). Red Sox fans are the only fans I've ever had be physically aggressive with me at a game. Nobody should be pushed around or feel threatened at a sports venue. No reason for it whatsoever. I really never had a problem with Ranger fans, since there really haven't been any until the last few years. Even so, the ones that come to the stadium are ok. There are some that are a pain in the butt on Twitter, etc., but every fanbase has those. I've never had a problem with Dodger fans at Angels games either. Sat in front of one in the last interleague series and he was a nice enough guy. The bandwagon Red Sox fans just seem to have this mob mentality that makes them think it's ok to act foolish and aggressive towards others when they come to Angel stadium. I haven't been to Boston, but I've heard the ones at Fenway are very nice. They were very welcoming and friendly to my aunt and uncle, who weren't wearing any Angels gear while at Fenway. One of them even took the time to get them reservations at a pretty high-end restaurant in Boston. That's class. I wish there were more of those fans here on the West Coast.
  3. The Braves are geniuses when it comes to knowing when to let a pitcher go.
  4. Well, I've said it before, and I'll say it again. It's hard to believe that attendance at Angels stadium consistently tops 3,000,000 if we're all bandwagon fans, especially when they haven't been to the playoffs since 2009. If I really wanted to jump ship to the Dodgers, I certainly wouldn't put myself through watching some seriously bad Angels games most nights. Dude should just enjoy it while it lasts and keep his mouth shut. The guy's got a 1.4 WAR this season. He's not exactly carrying their team.
  5. I think they should just let Calhoun play out the rest of the year and see what he's got. If he looks good, flip Bourjos for a starter in the offseason. He seems a little fragile, but I'm sure there's somebody out there that would like that combination of speed and defense (and a low salary). If Calhoun looks awful, no harm, no foul. Bourjos heals up in the offseason and comes back next year. At this point, the Angels' season is done. There's no need to put 2014 at risk. They're going to have a tough time putting a decent pitching staff together as it is. There's no reason to risk not having one of their position players early in the season. They play badly enough in April already.
  6. Performance Enhancing Dip, baby.
  7. Thank you, Josh Hamilton, for shutting me right the **** up. Nice walk off, good sir.
  8. I'm getting sick and tired of watching the Angels puss out against the Red Sox time after time. Even back when they were good, they just played gutless baseball against these guys. This team isn't THAT good.
  9. I think the Lakers need to get younger, but Howard isn't the guy. When a guy's attitude is "I want to go where they're going to give me championships" instead of "I'll be a champion wherever I go", he doesn't have the right mindset. He didn't show a lot of effort this season from what I saw. And when Kobe pushed him to be better, he didn't like it. The guy doesn't seem to want to work hard to take it to the next level. Champions are always trying to find ways to get better. Dwight's not that guy. That said, he's already gotten one coach fired. Now he's saying he didn't feel comfortable playing for D'Antoni? You can't let a guy have that kind of control. What if he doesn't like the next coach you bring in? I could honestly give a hot crap about D'Antoni one way or another. But if you go down that road with a player, it will lead to even bigger problems later. You can't have that if you want to have a consistent winner every year. The Lakers are absolutely better off without him. They don't have his drama to deal with in the short-term, and in the long-term, they'll have more money to play around with. Good riddance.
  10. Love it. Great couple of people right there. Glad they're keeping the memory alive.
  11. The dude is not worth the circus he brings to town.
  12. Bye bye, Dwight! Enjoy all those rings in Houston!
  13. These rental players the Angels have picked up the last few years just didn't pan out. When they picked up Teixeira, they were already smoking the AL West, and Tex didn't do much to help them in the playoffs. Haren and Greinke didn't help them get to the playoffs. It makes me ill when I see what Corbin and "Mean" Jean Segura are doing this season. I don't really like the idea of giving up a 3B prospect in Cowart, either, since 3B has been such a problem for the Angels for a while. I don't think a rental guy is a solution at this point. They have to look long-term. If they do make a trade (and really, I don't think they should), I'd rather they make a "lesser" trade for maybe some back-of-the-rotation help or a bullpen arm. The offense can get it done. They can still make a run, but it's a tough sell giving up any of the few remaining solid prospects they have at the point they're at in the season.
  14. What drives me nuts is that people are talking about Puig being on the All Star team. Bruce Bochy said it best. The guys that have a great first half make that team, not guys that have a great three weeks. Enough already.
