Saltzer's Shots: Ban A-Rod for Life

Wasn't it at least offered?  I read somewhere that another Biogenesis associate was offered something like $30,000 for testimony and turned it down.

Nope. Instead MLB filed a huge lawsuit against Biogenesis. If he cooperated and told the truth, MLB would drop any charges.

Yes, but me or you could fabricate a fictitious invoice in about 10 minutes on a computer.

That is only if you knew at the time you were going to need to create fake ones. But they had no idea this was going to happen. You need to remember than MLB first got tons of evidence from an anonymous person at BioG not named Bosch. That is what caused this whole circus.

Bosch seems shady enough to do whatever it takes to give people what they want.  There's plenty of incentive there to fabricate records to appease the other side.

There's also plenty of repercussions if he got caught in a lie. Some of the evidence is proof that he went to ARod's house and personally injected ARod by phone records and texts.

Doesn't it seem a bit strange that any recordkeeping exists at all?  I seriously doubt that real invoices were used anyway.  Bosch in his handwritten notebooks used cryptic nicknames and notations to indicate  who owed him money.

This doesn't seem like an operation with an extensive paper trail.  The anonymous source was likely in the same boat as Bosch by that point...no job, no income, no morals, and nothing to lose.

It is because of their shoddy bookkeeping why the evidence was glaring. Compare that to BALCO which had excellent bookkeeping practices. It was very difficult to trace the coding for which clients. They used complex coding practices to keep track of cycle calendars and even payment trails. That's probably what saved Barry's behind during the federal perjury case.

Repercussions from whom?

MLB could pursue the lawsuit and tack on additional accusations. But the bigger picture is that the Feds are still building a case against BioG and Bosch. If Bosh cooperated with MLB, MLB in return would work with the Feds on minimizing any charges.

What makes this evidence glaring?  Granted, we don't know what other evidence exists, but there's nothing in these handwritten notes that definitively proves a sale was made.  These could be sales pitches, prices quoted, the work of a mentally ill person, who knows.

BALCO is different because the Feds had access to more sources and could corroborate other evidence through them.  i.e. bank records

MLB can go as far as they want, but it won't matter.  Bosch is probably broke and whatever assets he might have are probably going to be seized by the Feds -- if that hasn't already occurred -- which means MLB is again powerless.

The Feds aren't going to put much weight into anything MLB tells them about Bosch's character.  They might just laugh it off...
