This isn't dumb. Trout hasn't been on the field so you can't rank him #1 when he isn't playing. 

He hasn't played a full season since 2016. Last year he only played 82 games. In 2022, 118, in 2021, 36 and that wasn't the Covid lockout. There is no #1 resume there. 

What he did the first 5 seasons were historic, and what he has been able to do since is not. Trout hasn't lived up to a #1 ranking no matter how much you want him to be. His lack of playing time makes #8 generous.

Scheffler, Rahm, McIllroy, they all are #1 ranked players but Tiger is who Tiger is now, like Trout now is the guy we haven't seen play the last six years. If you were to build a fantasy team, Trout would not be your #1 pick.

She didn't preface the rankings with the top 10 of 2023-2024 or who you'd want to start your team with.

Yeah...  Okay.. 

Using your logic he ranks 3rd overall in fWAR since 2017 when he started missing time left and right.  But since they spotted the competition three seasons (2009( and he still finishes nearly 30 fWAR ahead of the pack I think it's more than fair to believe the list is beyond dumb.

And if you want to argue that's a valid list, explain Salvador Perez at number 10.
