The Quest to Avoid 90 Losses

It's probably a long shot. The Angels are sitting at 86 losses and have 9 games remaining, so they'd need to go 6-3 to avoid a 90-loss season.

The important thing is:

Hopeful Arte Moreno countdown is just 9 games.

The 6-3 record, whether liking it or not, is very doable with three games each at home vs the A’th and Rangers and three games on the road vs the A’th.

Since completing that real ugly 20-48 stretch, they are 23-25.

Ending the season on a winning note (29-28 record) would be a decent segway into 2023.

Can still hope for catching lightning in a bottle, and draw one of the top 6 draft lottery spots.

And may the 2023 draft be the final main step in the farm system rebuild, a longggg 7+ years!

Not a single player is going to seqway the end of this season into the next after a 5 month layoff. That is some bullshit excuse making that losing teams use to excuse their failure to win by "Finishing Strong" against other teams that don't give a shit about being out of the playoffs.

With a lottery, the overall record makes less difference. Losing 90 versus 89 games isn't going to make one whit of difference in the draft status, IMO.

At this point, they are eliminated...lose as many as possible to secure a higher percentage in the draft. If you're winning for pride, reality check...you already suck ass.

Looks like we’re tied with the Cubs for 10th the worst record, 1.5 games ahead of Texas and 2 in front of Colorado.

But the Cubs win the tiebreaker vs. the Angels (based on their respective 2021 season records), and the Cubs have 3 games remaining with the Phillies, who are very much in the WC race.  So, more likely than not, the Angels end up with the 11th position in the draft lottery.

Could even be 12th, D-Backs are tanking and have nothing but difficult games the rest of the way.

At this point it really doesn't matter if they finish 67-95 or 76-86, or anywhere in-between. The offseason "plan" (such as it is) remains the same.

Angels have a combined W-L record of 15-14 (.517) against OAK and TEX so they should win 5 of the last 9 which would bring them to exactly 90 losses.

The real tragic numbers are 40-69, our record since that 27-17 start.

29 friggin games under .500. The true measure of this season. A whole lot of things need to change before we can compete again. A lower draft pick will not make much difference, but go ahead, lose some more games.

I agree that losing for a lower draft pick doesn't make much of a difference.  However, trying to win by giving players like Lorenzen, Ford, Sierra and Duffy more playing opportunities makes even less sense.  Embrace the loses and play the kids.  Maybe Ohtani will see a reason to stay by seeing some of the younger players, because watching Lorenzen, Ford, Sierra and Duffy playing is not inspiring.
