If he doesn't, then it is no loss at all.  He has not hit in the MLB and is basically a 1B.  If anything happened to Walsh, MacKinnon looks good in AAA and can likely fill in until Walsh returns.

Yeah I don't really care if he gets claimed or not, though stuff like this is always intriguing to me.   We know and talk about how we feel about these players as biased Angels fans, but I'm always interested to find out whether other organizations view these guys as MLB caliber or not

To be honest, I was a bit bummed that we held onto Rojas and DFA'd Davis, although truth be told, players like Davis are probably a dime a dozen.  He held some promise as a potential bench player, but we are fine without him too.  I would have DFA'd Rojas and Mayfield before him, though.

Don't forget we still have Suzuki if anything happens to Walsh.

On another note, it seems the FO was impressed enough with Wallach's work that they didn't simply just "return" him to AAA when Stassi was activated, which they could have.

Yeah, it's interesting that they've left him on the 40-man roster. And, to be honest, I'm not completely sure why.

My understanding was that players "returned" to AAA (like Romine) don't have to be put through waivers. In that case, they could've just returned Wallach to AAA and kept him in the organization without having to commit a 40-man roster spot to him. They could always add him back to the 40-man if needed later on in the season.

Yeah, it was a little puzzling, because this was seemingly a "freebie," I guess - he could have simply been returned.  That said, I would think this probably is a good sign for him in that the FO likely views him as solid depth, and he could perhaps be the obligatory AAA catching safety net.  Next year, Thaiss could very well be the backup catcher (Thaiss is out of options), with Wallach again serving as the backup in AAA who gets called up if/when injuries strike.

There does seem to be a real plan for catcher now and I like it.  Extending Stassi, returning Thaiss to catching and actually having a catching prospect (don’t recall the name) in the low minors.  It feels good.

Yeah, agreed.  It seems like we are actually building some catching depth, which is great.

The catcher you are referring to is Quero.  We have another interesting one in AA in Humphreys, who was an undrafted player who is absolutely raking (for a catcher).  Not sure how he is defensively, though.

Wallach will be out of options next season as well. Thaiss still hasn't caught a game at the MLB level, which makes it difficult to project him as the backup catcher despite him being out of options.
