He clears waivers on Saturday, but I don't think the Angels can take him back.

I'm pretty sure they have to trade him or place him on outright waivers by that point.

The Angels aren't going to do that anyway. Presumably, Ward isn't going to be out for long, and I think they would allow Upton to just go find a team he wants to be all season instead of saying "can you play for us for another few weeks and then let us release you?"
