  1. 1. How would you address shortstop?

    • Move Fletcher to SS
      3
    • Stay internal (Rengifo, Mayfield, Davis, Wong, etc)
      22
    • Trade (say the player you want in your reply)
      5
    • Buy low in free agency (think 1 year deal, likely a defensive specialist)
      8
    • Spend big (Semien, Correa, Story, Baez, Seager)
      7

How?

If you trade marsh or Adell { who are min salary] for a need, you will take on more salary with that new player. Now you have another need for an outfielder. There is no outfielder mlb ready in the org. So you will incure more salary signing  a outfielder. One need turned into 2 needs.

less money for other needs.

My priorities would be this:

Closer

8th inning guy

TOR

SS

7th inning guy

back up catcher

Something along those lines.

Plan A

A very good starter on a deal of less than 4 years via FA.  To slot after Ohtani.
A closer
A legit yet not overly expensive SS.  Someone about league Avg.
2 pen arms that can push a guy like Mayers to 5th or 6th out.
Another decent starter
A quality MIFer coming off the bench.  Not a scrub replacement player picked up on waievers
A backup C.

Plan B
All the above minus the first one.
Plus another pen arm.

Every plan including A-Z

Don't trade Marsh, Adell, or Rodriguez.  Try not to trade Detmers.  If you must then it should be for someone with at least three years of control that can slot in after Shohei.

Don't trade anyone in our top 15 or so for some mediocre starter.  And please don't trade Paris or Kochanowicz.

Has anyone mentioned Joey Wendle?  Solid defender at SS and other spots.  Might be getting too pricey for the Rays.

I like him as a fit, but I'd prefer him as a player who could bounce around and play like 4-5 games a week instead of being the starting SS.

Maybe Fletcher, Wendle, and someone else could split 2B and SS, with 1 of those guys being available off the bench.

Of the shortstops out there, who is rated best defensively? With the offensive the Angels have the Angels could field an average offensive shortstop and win.

Of shortstops probably available, Top 5-

By DRS: Carlos Correa, Andrelton Simmons, Isaiah Kiner-Falefa, Taylor Walls, and Kevin Newman.

By UZR: Kevin Newman, Nicky Lopez, Miguel Rojas, Paul DeJong, and Trevor Story.

By OAA: Nicky Lopez, Nick Ahmed, Andrelton Simmons, Carlos Correa, and Paul DeJong.
