I think it’s because it’d be easy to ride an arm like that into the ground, and that isn’t really fair to the player when you aren’t playing for anything.

Wouldn't he want to be in the critical save situation? He could go two innings and not be needed tomorrow. Doubtful that this kind of an opportunity will materialize tomorrow.
