Gameday Thread: Angels @ Indians (8/20/21): Barria on the mound, no Upton against the lefty

Recommended Posts

Cleveland will turn to left-hander Sam Hentges (1-4, 7.95) to start the series opener on Friday night.

Hentges, 25, allowed three runs on four hits in two innings of a no-decision against the Tigers on Saturday. He was blitzed by the Angels on May 17, permitting six runs on five hits -- including a three-run homer to Ohtani -- with three walks in 1 2/3 innings of a 7-4 loss.

--Field Level Media

Angels need to be patient at the plate. Hentges has a WHIP of 2.03 and 27 BB in 48.2 IP.

Same with MacKenzie tomorrow, averages over 4.5 BBs per 9 innings.

This is why I've never been a fan of Barria. He's works from behind way too often, and his pitches don't have enough movement to get around guys. His slider moves like a change, and his fastball is just flat. He's fine as a spot starter but I'd much rather see him learn to ramp it up for 4-6 outs and come out of the bullpen.
