Lasorda was the top Dodger pitcher for their AAA team in Montreal in the fifties. Before my time, but over the years he was always popular there. I saw many interviews with him when he brought the Dodgers to town, recollection his playing days and complimentary to the city and fans. But he still broke their hearts in 1981.Always a great baseball ambassador. His presence will be missed.

I got to meet Tommy Lasorda in store I worked in. You had to buy a case of his pasta sauce to get an autographed ball. I hate the Dodgers but Lasorda such a positive person and was great for the game of baseball. I liked his rant after Dave Kingman's 3 home runs in game against Dodgers.

He had an interesting love/hate relationship with the fans in Atlanta during the time that the Braves and Dodgers shared a division. The fans were on him during games, yet afterward they had a healthy respect for him. He was pretty much an annual guest at offseason gatherings of the Braves booster club in Atlanta.

The one Lasorda story, quite possibly a myth, that i always remembered but couldnt find proof of was the time he was supposedly arguing with an ump to fire up the team and it was all about pizza toppings or some silliness like that just putting on a show to fire them up.
I dont know if it was actually true or not but i heard it from so many people back in the day. 

I have heard similar stories about other managers. They will walk up to the umpire and tell him to toss them to fire up the team, and then they will start yelling about something that has nothing to do with the game.
